If you search my blog, you’ll find I’ve reviewed several pairs of this model. The Air Jordan 1 Letterman is the latest addition to my collection of AJ1s.
I was hesitant thanks to the colorway looking inconsistent in photos online. Now that I have them in person, I can guarantee that the colorway is really dope!
When Michael Jordan was 23 and fresh off of a 63 point game against the Celtics, he wore a suit in a similar colorway as a guest on the David Letterman show. This forms the basis of the inspiration for the shoe. These feature a print on the insole with the words “ON AIR” and a microphone. These also feature Nike Air branding on the tongue.
These are so wacky and bright that a more low key outfit is the move. I personally either go with a black on black type fit or the standard grey hoodie and medium wash jeans. Whatever you do, avoid bright red elements unless they are very minimal.
How Are The Materials?
The materials on Air Jordan 1s are typically hit or miss. In this case, we get leather uppers with the navy parts being a patent leather type material and a nylon tongue. The great news is that the materials on this shoe are really good! The leather is smooth and thick. If you really pay attention to materials, you might not be blown away by these, but they definitely are better than many other AJ1s I’ve seen.
How Do They Fit?
Usually, Air Jordan 1s are fairly uncomfortable. In this case, the base of the Air Jordan 1 Letterman seems slightly wider. This means that I’m not getting as bad of a toe pinch on these as I do on other pairs of AJ1s. This coupled with slightly more pliable materials means that the shoe fits true to size for me and is very comfortable. I highly recommend not sleeping on these.
